We had a terrific assembly to kick off Character Counts. Ask your child what they thought of the assembly

The six pillars are; Trustworthiness; Respect; Responsibility; Fairness; Caring; and Citizenship. CHARACTER COUNTS! recommends always using these pillars in this specific order to all the use of the acronym of T.R.R.F.C.C. to help remember each pillar.

The Six Pillars of Character are the core ethical values of CHARACTER COUNTS! These values were identified by a nonpartisan, nonsectarian (secular) group of youth development experts in 1992 as “core ethical values that transcend cultural, religious and socioeconomic differences.

Harvest of the Month with Mrs. Lori Long

The start of October means another harvest of the month from Sierra Harvest. This week we will have lunchbox peppers from JSM Organics. They will be very sweet and the kids should enjoy them. I am picking up the produce early and will hopefully have them all sorted and distributed by the end of the day tomorrow. Here is the link to the educator newsletter so you can have more information on peppers.
Click on the HEADLINE above to get to the newsletter.
I really loved reading all the little notes written about pears last month, thank you for sharing!
Also, if any classrooms have time and want to make thank you cards for donors to Sierra Harvest, they are definitely welcome. They can be as simple as "Thank you for supporting Sierra Harvest"

Mrs. Kelley!

Every year, each school chooses a teacher to be recognized as the Teacher Who Makes a Difference. This year, we have chosen Mrs. Kerry Kelley.
Mrs. Kelley is our teacher for transitional kindergarten and intervention. She has taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade for the district. I am sure that each of her 31 classes, 25 of which have been in the Pleasant Ridge School District, have expressed the same gratitude for her care and compassion. What is the first thing her co-workers say when asked about Mrs. Kelley? They all note how much she loves children and how kind she is to everyone. She approaches all of her teaching duties with a positive energy. She is the first to volunteer to keep an after school homework club afloat, be the PTC rep or round up support for a colleague or a family in need. She has offered sincere and kind guidance to me in my first year as principal for which I am ever grateful. I asked her TK students what they think of their teacher. The most common words used were: 1. Helps 2. Loves 3. Hugs. That pretty much says it all about Mrs. Kelley.

Be a Bucket Filler

We are pleased to announce that our Bucket Filler Program is up and going! Last week our Alta Sierra Student Council students did an amazing job giving their Bucket Filler presentations to the younger grades! They presented each class with a bucket and discussed the importance of filling up each others buckets with kind words, helping each other, showing respect to each other, and all the other wonderful ways we can treat each other with kindness. Each class received tickets that students fill out to recognize each other and teachers will read these to the class on occasion. Way to go Eagles!

School Closed Wed, Jan 11; Will Re-Open Thursday, Jan 12

After the torrential downpours of the past few days, the mudslides, downed trees, electricity outages, and flooding made it unsafe for many of our students to come to school on Wednesday (via bus or traditional means).

After touring the district's boundaries mid-morning on Wednesday, we have determined that we will be safe to resume school at all three sites on Thursday. While we recognize that many families are still without power, the school sites' electricity has been unharmed and the sites are safe for students to return.
