Busy Bee Readers!

Alta Sierra Elementary School May 1 – May 26, 2017 All Kindergarten students at Alta Sierra Elementary School are invited and encouraged to participate in our Kindergarten Busy Bee Award Program, which will begin on May 1st and end on May 26, 2017. The purpose of this program is to encourage students to read and enjoy books. In order to qualify for the honor of becoming a “Busy Bee Reader”, students will need to read books of their choice and complete book reports, using forms which will be available in their classrooms. Students may listen to a book, have a book read to them or read orally themselves. Children need to write the title and author on their report. They may then dictate a sentence about the story for you to write or write their own sentence. Their last job is to illustrate a part of the story they enjoyed. Students will need to complete some “Book Reports” at home. After the students have read and reported on ten books, they will be officially declared “Busy Bee Readers.” They will be awarded a certificate and a special book as the reward. Students may continue to read books after completing the first set and will receive additional recognition for each set of 10 books and reports completed thereafter. The “prize” books have been purchased from money raised through Parents’ Club. We are certain that you and your child will enjoy our “Busy Bee Reader Award Program!” Thank you so much for your continued support.

February 12

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you are all out enjoying this beautiful sunshine
The next few weeks are going to be busy ones. Here are some of the highlights of things to come:
  • Tuesday is Valentine's Day. If you choose to, your child may bring a valentine to share with each of their classmates. We will be delivering valentines starting tomorrow morning.
  • **If you have extra blank valentine cards would you please send them in? I like to have some extras just in case we have a friend in need. Thank you!**
  • Friday, Feb. 17th and Monday, Feb. 20th we will not have school in observance of Presidents Day
  • Friday, Feb. 24th we have a special wood working project planned. I will need MANY volunteers for this one! It will involve helping each of our little sweeties build a birdhouse. The time I need AS MANY ADULTS AS POSSIBLE will be from 8:10 to 10:00 that Friday. Please let me know if you can help. All willing adults welcome
  • We are coming up to the end of the 2nd Trimester which means report cards. I do not schedule conferences this time but please email me if you would like to meet to discuss any questions or concerns. I will be happy to schedule something.
  • I will be testing students on their sight words and letter sounds this time so please practice with your child.
  • Saturday, March 11th is our school evening fundraiser. It is a fun time for grown ups to get together and raise money to help our school. This year there will be a band for dancing and wonderful items to bid on. Childcare is offered on site but it fills up REALLY fast. Tiffany has already sent out an email about our class basket. I am so excited to see what comes together. I love the theme this year. Thank you so much Tiffany for taking this on!
Finally, I just want to say "Thank You!!!" for all of your support this year. I am so proud of how hard our kids are working on their reading. Let's keep the momentum going. First grade is just around the corner and I want this group to go in and blow those teachers away!
Have a relaxing Sunday and I will see you all bright and early in the morning!
