Happy October Break!

Read-A-Thon: October 12-October 30, 2020: Just a reminder, that your child has received another notice about the Read-A-Thon. They have a log in number and can record their reading minutes and pledges on the Read-A-Thon website. If they get sponsors to pledge money to support their reading minutes, they raise money for our school activities. This fundraiser is in lieu of the Jog-A-Thon. Thanks for any support you can provide.

Our weekly Monday Zoom Check-in is Monday, October 26, at 11:00. The link is in Google classroom under “Stream.” We’ll be doing an art docent lesson with Mrs. Yoho. See you then! If your child can’t make it, please email me at cnat@prsd.us to let me know they are checked-in and working on schoolwork Monday. I’ll check work on Tuesday.

Art Project: Realism (gourds/Pumpkins)

Supplies: Best: Nice drawing paper, 1 pc of scratch paper (1/2 sheet of printer paper works), charcoal in white and black, heavy graphite pencils, a gourd or pumpkin to draw. Alt. colored pencils. I sent home paper with your child.

Supplies: Alternatives: Any paper, colored pencils or oil pastels, pencil and eraser, a gourd or pumpkin to draw.

Please remember to check grades in PowerSchool under Student Links. 50% means the assignment wasn’t turned in for grading.

Halloween News: Students can wear a costume Friday October 30, 2020. We will celebrate at a distance in class. COVID-19 Protocols will still be in affect.

No Halloween masks that are full faced, guns, swords or other weapons. Bloody or gory costumes are also not allowed.

Monday Art Docent on Zoom

Monday, September 21, 2020, Mrs. Yoho has invited our class to an Art Lesson on Zoom. The art Lesson is at 11:00 AM.  Students can access the link through their Google Classroom and have been shown how to do so. Please do not share the link on social media. The cardstock square and pens for the “zentangles” are in your child’s Eagle folder in their backpack. They will also need coloring utensils.

Please bring the pens and completed art to class on Tuesday and we can display it.

This Zoom meeting will be our check-in for attendance on Monday.

Chromebooks:

Be sure to remind your child to plug in the Chromebook each night and bring it to school in their backpack each day charged.

Studies Weekly Password has a twist. Students will login the same as everything else except, in their password at the end of the number, the first letter needs to be capitalized and the second is lowercase. This is only for Studies Weekly!

Students can have the Studies Weekly read to them online and highlight their paper copy as they listen. This earns the credit for reading/listening to the information. We all tried this in class on our Chromebooks and it worked well. They can watch the videos in the online version as well.

Book Fair Reminder:

Mrs. Alonso is having a virtual book fair. It is on the right side of my website. Just click on Book Fair and then click on the link that pops up.

Pictures are Thursday, September 17, 2020. Morning hybrid class is scheduled for picture time at 10:00. The afternoon hybrid class is scheduled for picture time at 1:15.

September 9, 2020

Chromebooks:

Today your child received a new Chromebook and charger. This has been checked out to them by the Tech Department with an asset number on the back of the Chromebook. Students wrote this number down on the checkout form for you.

Your child is bringing home the policies, checkout and insurance forms in their Eagle Homework Folder. Please read, sign, and return the checkout forms. We can send home Chromebooks tomorrow if checkout forms are returned.

Be sure to train your child to plug in the Chromebook each night and bring it to school in their backpack each day charged. You may want to purchase a protective case online for added protection.

School Lunches:

Students in the Pleasant Ridge School District are now eligible to receive a free breakfast and lunch until December 31, 2020. Orders still need to be received the day before. They can be ordered online at aslunch@prsd.us

Please be sure to include your child’s name on the email.

Book Fair:

Mrs. Alonso is having a virtual book Fair. It is on my page to the right on my website. Just click on Book Fair and then the link that pops up.

August 29, 2020

We had a busy but good week getting use to the hybrid schedule for learning. The in-person day seems to fly by, and before we know it, we’re packing for home. I’m also enjoying that your children are happy to be at school and learning.

I will be sending out a Zoom meeting invitation to your email for my Back to School Night presentation, which is Thursday, September 3, 2020. The schedule of times for grade levels are still being determined. I will let you know on the email invitation the time scheduled for 4th Grade. Just click on the link in the email and join the meeting. Please do not share the link on social media. Your mic will be muted while I present, but any questions may be emailed to me at cnat@prsd.us

I have added a page to the right, labeled Monday Home Learning Activities. Click on it to see a list of the activities your child is expected to work on for Mondays. Your child will have the assignments for each activity written in their agenda. They copy all work to be completed from the whiteboard each day. Please remind them how important it is to copy the assignments carefully and neatly.

Students received their username and passwords for logging in when visiting student links on the Alta Sierra Website. They brought the paper home in their blue Thursday folder. I would suggest also writing them on the front page of their agenda for easy reference.

When we get our Chromebooks, we can all have access to my Google Classroom and the student links to support learning. I will not be putting any assignments on Google Classroom until we all have a school Chromebook to access it. Until then, feel free to use an at home device and go to Student Links to explore what is there. If students go to Google Classroom on Student Links, it will open and have a button for them to click in order to “Join” my 4th grade Google Classroom.

Another great Student Links site is “Think Central Go Math”. They login and go to “My Library” and click on the Interactive Student Edition. They can click on the lesson we are doing for homework and it will take them through an interactive tutorial of the lesson. This can be a big help for them at home.

Chromebooks for Hybrid Students were ordered by the district and are expected to arrive in September. I will keep you informed on their arrival.

Have a great weekend and stay healthy!

Mr. Nat

August 20, 2020

I want to welcome everyone to Alta Sierra’s 4th Grade! The students were excited to get back to school even with the differences they were experiencing. Thank you for raising such polite and caring children. I’ve already seen them exhibiting the Alta Sierra School Expectations of being Kind, Respectful, and Responsible.

You all should have seen the blue Thursday Folder come home yesterday. The school calls that the ”Thursday Folder” because any notes coming home from the school will be sent home in that folder on… You guessed it, Thursdays. Please have students bring the folder back the next day, Friday. We quarantine them and have them ready to go for the next Thursday.

I also gave the students an “Alta Sierra Folder” for transporting their work home for Mondays when they are not at school. The work to be done at home on Monday is recorded in their agenda on the Friday before. (Today’s date) Attendance for Monday is accounted for by the work completed and turned in on Tuesday. I went over the work and explained the expectations today. If anything proves to be challenging, have them do their best, and we will discuss the challenges Tuesday.

Please help students develop the habit of recording in and looking at their agenda daily. It will help them be organized about work to be completed at home.

Library User names and passwords (barcodes) were sent home today in the “Alta Sierra Folder.” I didn’t want to wait for next Thursday, just in case you wanted to reserve a book this weekend. Library Check-In and Check-Out days are Tuesdays for Hybrid Students. The note sent home gives you the link for tutorials and how to reserve a book. I also put the link on my website if you look to the right.

Chromebooks for Hybrid Students were ordered by the district and are expected to arrive in September. I will keep you informed on their arrival.

Have a great weekend and stay healthy!
