September 14-18, 2020

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and had a productive Monday learning from home!

I will collect student work check-off lists tomorrow. Please sign the slip and initial work completed on the form. Many assignments are due on Friday, but have your child return them to class tomorrow to check in with me.

We are working on spelling 1.3 (4th grade) and Week 3 words for Grade 5. We have four activities on Spelling City to help students prepare for the test. Some students are doing a great job getting the Spelling City routine down! Other students are working from the Spelling Menu. Either way, please have your child practice every night, Monday-Friday. Our test will be given in class on Friday. Please have your child return the Spelling Contract on Friday with your initials by their preferred study choice and sign.

Students are just beginning to practice their math facts on our XtraMath fact program.  Students who finish the Xtra Math Multiplication facts will receive an award! Thank you for supporting fact memorization.  This really helps with computation and all other concepts covered in math this year!

Thank you! Some of our families have donated bottled water to share with the class. We are not using our drinking faucet in class, so sending in bottled water is always appreciated for the students who do not have or have forgotten their water bottle.

Thank you! Some families have made a donation for our classroom treasure chest! This week Samantha brought in several pairs of decorative socks. They were so appreciated! Please send in any item you think the students will work especially hard to earn the chance to win during our Friday Catch-Ya Being Good Drawing.

Please allow your child to bring in a pair of earbuds to use in class with their Chromebook. Many families have left-over earbuds that came with phones they may no longer use. Put the earbuds in a zip lock bag with your child’s name on it to use in class daily. I would like students to keep the earbuds in the classroom if that is okay with you.

Thank you so much for all of your help and support!

A word about Chromebooks:

Fourth graders took their Chromebooks and chargers home last week, and I believe our Fifth graders will receive their Chromebooks and chargers early this week! The Chromebook is checked out to them by the Tech Department with an asset number on the back of the Chromebook. Students are to write this number down on the checkout form.

Your child will bring home the policies, checkout and insurance forms. Please read, sign, and return the checkout forms. Almost all of our Fourth Grade students have returned the forms and insurance payment, Fifth Grade students will take home the form when they receive their Chromebook.

Be sure to remind your child to plug in the Chromebook each night and bring it to school in their backpack each day fully charged. You may want to purchase a protective case online for added protection.

When logging into Studies Weekly from the student links by grade level, the password has a twist. Students will login the same as everything else except, in their password at the end of the number, the first letter needs to be capitalized and the second is lowercase. This is only for Studies Weekly!

Students can have the Studies Weekly read to them online and highlight their paper copy as they listen. This earns the credit for reading/listening to the information. We will try this in class on our Chromebooks this week to make sure everyone can do it. Then students will be able to watch the videos in the online version as well.

Book Fair Reminder:

Mrs. Alonso has sent out information to you regarding the Book Fair!
