September 29 - October 2, 2020

Happy Monday to everyone!

The students are doing a fantastic job wearing their masks and practicing social distancing.  Let's keep it up so we can stay healthy, stay safe, and stay in school!

Friday folders were sent home loaded with work to do on Monday.  Please help your child to prioritize his/her time. The following assignments are due when they return to school on Tuesday: math lesson 2.4 (4th grade) or 2.5 (5th grade), journal-4th grade or news article-5th grade paragraph of the week - Spelling, 20 minutes of reading, 20 minutes of PE, and any other extra work that was listed on the check-off sheet including missing assignments or work to correct and return. (Remember to do Xtra math facts and check out a library book to pick up on Tuesday.) Please initial each item completed and sign the "Work to Complete" log to return to class on Tuesday.

Science and social studies weekly will be due on Fridays, but students should try to complete some of the work each day, including Monday.  There are a few fun experiments in the science weekly that can be done with items found around the house.  If you are looking for a fun activity you may want to try these with your family.

Spelling City word lists 2.1 (4th Grade) and Week 5 (Fifth Grade) are in Spelling City!

Wednesday, September 30, marks the end of our mid-trimester. Grades can be checked on Power School. Please remember this is not the final grade for the trimester, and grades can go up or down before the end of the trimester on November 20 when grades are final.

Complex math concepts can be is very difficult for students if they have not mastered their multiplication facts. If your child is still struggling to pass multiplication in Xtra Math, please support your child at home and practice their facts with them. Memorization of basic facts is essential to math success. In addition, PLEASE ask your child to use grid or graph paper computation problems, and check their homework for accuracy.

Fourth Grade Families - Please continue to send in clay for our California Regions Maps. Thank you to Estevan's family for sending in green clay! We still need one more batch of green, orange, purple, and yellow clay before we begin the project. The recipe was sent home, but you can also find it on my web page or shown below. We received enough plates to get started! However, we now need the clay. Thank you!

Clay Recipe: 1 cup flour 1 tablespoon oil 1 cup water 1⁄2 cup salt 2 teaspoons cream of tartar food coloring (orange, yellow, purple, green) Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan. Place over medium heat. Using a wooden spoon stir constantly. Mixture will be soupy for several minutes. It will suddenly stick together. Remove from heat at this point but continue to stir until mixture is in a ball. Turn the hot ball onto a piece of wax paper until it is cool. Place in a ziplock or air tight container.

Thank you so much for all of your help and support!
