Dear PRUSD Staff and Families,
Monday, February 28th, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that students would no longer be required to wear masks at school after March 11, regardless of vaccination status. This announcement is consistent with recent guidance from the CDC shifting from masks being “required for students” to “strongly recommended.” This means that the masking requirement for students is lifted on Friday, March 11 at 11:59 p.m. Therefore, the first school day that masks will no longer be required for students and staff is Monday, March 14.
Please understand that some students and families will decide to continue to wear a mask while at school, and we want to stress that all students and their choices regarding masking must be treated with respect. PRUSD and our schools respect all individual choices and will continue to follow public guidance as the state shifts to an endemic phase of COVID-19.
We expect continued guidance from the state regarding mitigation measures that have been in place to protect the health and well-being of our students, staff, families, and communities. We will also continue to monitor and update you regarding all COVID-19 health and safety issues as they arise.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and understanding as our state and local protocols change and we make adjustments accordingly.
As additional information becomes available, we will be sure to share it with you.
