Parent/ Teacher Communication

Mrs. Sherman's email [email protected]
Alta Sierra School phone: 530-272-2319

I check my email usually after school around 2:30. If you happen to email me about special instructions for your child, and I haven't responded (especially if your email is sent after 7:00 am on a school day), please call the office to ensure I get your important information in time. Thanks so much!

When school begins, please communicate with the office your TKer's detailed after-school plan.

For example:
Picked up by who at 11:25 am on the upper parking lot
          or
Going to the TK After-School Program (known as Little ELO)?
Who is picking up at 2:00 pm on the lower parking lot or which bus is your TKer going home on?
OR Staying longer than 2:00 pm for the TK-5 after-school program (known as BIG ELO)?

Also, please let the office know of ANY change to regular pick-up/after school plans that occur during the year. For the safety of students, all changes need to be given in writing or spoken directly by parents/guardians to an office staff member. Thank you so much for your help with this.

TK Week of September 28th-October 2nd

Apples- This week we explored apples in every way. We read about how apples grow and what it is like to visit an apple orchard. We painted apples and apple trees. We learned a new apple poem, and we tasted 3 varieties of apples. According to our apple graph, yellow (Golden Delicious) were the class favorite.

Letter of the Week- F (Francy Fish) We learned how to make a capital letter “F” and thought about many words that make the “F” sound. Ask your TK’er if they can think of any at home!

Lizzy Lizard’s L – We started our alphabet practice this week with the letter L! (“Hello smile, big line down, little line across.”) Have your TKer show you some fabulous L’s, and maybe you can go on a /l/ sound hunt together around the house!

Library – Woohoo! Everyone was so excited for their third trip to the library! Everyone in our class remembered to bring their library book back, so they received stickers from Mrs. Alonso!  📚

Jog-a-Thon- Thank you to everyone who donated and asked for pledges for our youngest runners! Our class alone raised over $1300 dollars for the school PTC to be used for field trips and fun activities this year.

We had a super fun week with our Orange is a Carrot song and theme. We tasted orange carrots, yellow pears, purple plums, and most everyones favorite was our brown day when we got to have a small piece of chocolate! It was a lot of fun painting in our books and singing as well! We were even able to explore how red and blue are mixed together to make purple!

Next week we have more color fun. Here is a reminder of our color days:
Monday- Green
Tuesday- Blue
Wednesday- Black
Thursday- Red
Friday- Spirit wear and blue day.

Jog-a-Thon was a blast, and so cute to watch them run their little hearts out to raise money for their school! Thank you to all my parents for helping out today and for making sure your little one was prepared. Everyone did a fantastic job! Envelopes came home today showing how many laps in case anyone donated per lap. You can turn in your form and money in the envelope next week. If you already turned it in, just send back the envelope and I will put it inside.

TK Week of 9/7-9/11

We had a fabulous week in TK!

This week we learned about shapes! We learned a new shape song and poem, and worked hard paint stamping circles, using glue sticks to create square and rectangle robots, and making a triangle collage. I will be putting those up in the classroom soon, so be on the lookout.

This week was our first library day! Our TK'ers were so exited to enjoy a story read by our librarian Mrs. Alonso, and they even got to take home a practice library book. The purpose of this book is to take really good care of it and turn it in next week. Be sure to read it with your little one so they can remember how to take care of library books at home. If they do a good job, they will be ready to check out a book next week of their choosing.

Our Jog-a-thon is next week so look out for the information and pledge forms that came home yesterday in Thursday Folders. Thank you for those who have already signed up to help, and if you still want to sign up, please send me an email. You will need to check in to the office and get a visitor badge the morning of, and check out when you leave.

Spirit days are Fridays and we all try to wear blue or Alta Sierra gear. It is completely optional, but a fun way to show school spirit and pride for being an Eagle!

Next week we will start our color days. We will be having fun with our "Orange is a Carrot" song. Our kiddos will get to wear the color of the day, taste the color of the day, and work on their own special book that they will take home at the end of the unit. I will put the colors for the days below if they want to dress up.

TK Week of August 31- September 4th

Hello TK Families! This week we learned just how special our names are and how each one starts with a Capital Letter! We had so much fun watercoloring, painting, and dabbing along as we learned to recognize our own unique names.

We started our first lesson in Second Step, which is our social/emotional learning curriculum. Ask your Tk’er about Jack and Annie (our puppets), and how they helped make them feel welcome by saying hello and introducing themselves. I was really proud of all of them for trying their best!

Our Jog-a-thon is scheduled for Friday, September 18th, which is two weeks away. We would love to have some parent volunteers to help tally laps and cheer for our class! We will be running first from 8:15-8:35. Send me an email if you would like to sign up. You would just stay with our class from drop-off until around 8:40. Look out for more information coming home about donations/pledges and prizes, etc. The theme this year is Superheroes.

I hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day 3-day Weekend! Remember- no school on Monday. See you Tuesday!

Dates to Remember:

September 7th (Monday)- Labor Day-NO SCHOOL

September 10th (Thursday)- Picture Day

TK week of 8/24-8/28

We had a wonderful week in TK! This week we focused on building more classroom skills like using tape dispensers, staplers, and watercolors. I am so proud of how hard they all worked and what they were able to accomplish! We also started learning our Zoophonic animal friends. Ask your little one to show you some of the movements.

I enjoyed having everyone here on Wednesday for Back to School Night. It was great to be able to share our plans for the year with you, and talk about some of our programs for Social Emotional Development, Handwriting for TK, and Zoophonic Friends.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the book fair, and to those who purchased a book for our classroom!

Have a great weekend!

Warmly,
Mrs. Sherman

Our 1st TK week 8/18-8/21

Hello TK families!

We are having a fabulous first week of TK! This week we are all getting to know each other, and our classroom routines. We have had lots of fun songs and stories, and learned how to use glue and scissors! Now your TK’ers are ready to create some fun things in the classroom, so be sure to check out our bulletin boards to see their hard work.

I will be sending our (Thursday) folders home on Friday this week, so I could get you important information about the book fair next week. We will not be going together as a class, so no need to send them with money. If you would like to check it out, it opens at 7:30 am and stays open until 2:30pm.

Some other things coming home will be picture day order forms. Our picture Day is on Thursday, September 10th. You can send the form in on picture day, or order online.

We have PE on Fridays, so please send your TK’er in closed toed shoes appropriate for running. We started today, and it was so fun to see them play a fun Ice cream game with our PE teacher Miss Willow!

I wanted to ask that you send your child a small snack. Just enough to fill their tummy, but not a whole meal. I have noticed that some of our little ones feel like they have to eat all of their snacks and miss out on valuable play time on the playground.

I want to say thank you to everyone who brought in supplies, and have already been in the classroom helping out with group time. I am so fortunate to have such great students and parents in my class!

Feel free to email me with any questions.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Sherman
