Regular Homework

*Read 20 minutes and record. Reading logs are due Friday.
*Practice Spelling words nightly.
*Math- We are working in our Math Book and and using  Xtra Math facts practice on the computer.

.

Extra Practice with our math concepts can be found online using the ISE under "Things to Do" and Skill Sets found in the "Library", click on the "Lady in the Red Hat." You can find these helpful web based tools on Student Links under "Think Central." The children have been practicing how to access these helpful tools, so they should be able to show you how to log on to the program.

Please check over your child’s math homework daily for accuracy and completeness. Studies show students learn better when they are given the opportunity to verbalize the steps taken to solve problems. Please allow your child this golden opportunity each evening when completing the math homework to explain to you their logic on a few select problems. If you notice an error, you will be able to catch it quickly before it becomes a habit that is difficult to break. Some of the concepts may seem tricky, so please know ANY strategy you show your child that works is worth learning and sharing in math class.

Xtra Math Fact practice is expected to be completed daily for points. If your child completes facts for 5 days/week they will receive 10 points (A+) for the week, 4 days = 9 points (A-), 3 days = 8 points(B-), 2 days = 7 points(C-), 1 day = 6 points(D-).

Reminder:

When practicing spelling words, it  helps to break the words down into parts (syllables) and focus on the sounds of each part.

Request for Donations...

I have two requests for donations...

First, Catch-ya drawing prizes for our class treasure chest. Students really enjoy our weekly drawing! If you would like to donate something, ask your child about what they would work hard to have a chance at winning. Students have the best ideas! Please send in any item of your choice with your child and I will put it in the treasure chest in class.

Second, wrapped Fun Friday packaged treats. Students enjoy fruit roll-ups, rice crispy treats, a bag of chips, or other snack item on Fridays after a week of learning. Again, ask your child for suggestions.

Thank you for all your help and support for our classroom!

What can I say? Wow! Thank you to all of our amazing families! You have overcome ALL obstacles to keep our students continuing to learn and grow through the storm, power outages, internet interruptions, a pandemic, etc! You are amazing! Thank you!

The students had a wonderful week of learning. The fraction bars really seem to help the students see fractions. I asked them to notice fractions "in the world" over the holiday weekend. Please promote real-world fractions as much as you can. We talked about measuring cups, scales to weigh produce in the grocery store, gas gauges in vehicles...

Two school-wide contests start upon our return to class on Tuesday. First, "Room to Grow" promotes giving appropriate personal space when walking through the hallways, lining up for class, and in the classroom. The second, "Lions Club Reading Raffle" sponsored by the Higgins Diggins Lions Club. For every AR test a student takes and passes at 80% or better at their AR level, they will earn one raffle ticket. On February 14, one name will be drawn from each grade level bucket for a chance to win a $50 gift card to Target. Good luck!

We had a wonderful day in class today. Thank you all so much for showering our class and the teacher with so many wonderful gifts and treats! You are so generous and thoughtful! I appreciate you!

The children have grown so much this year! The highlight of the year 2021 has been working with our class! Thank you so much for sending your child to class daily, eager and ready for learning. They are all so sweet, polite, and all around wonderful. I am truly appreciative of our class! Have a safe and healthy holiday season and I look forward to seeing your child back in class on Monday, January 3. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Decemer 10, 2021

December 10, 2021

This upcoming week is going to be full of fun! The children are so excited! I have a few "special" projects planned! (So many secrets this time of year!)

We will have spelling activities this week for lesson 4.1.

We will have homework this week, so please check your child's agenda. Our NWEA Math MAPS testing will be held on Tuesday. It is important to get plenty of rest the night before and enjoy a healthy breakfast on Tuesday morning. We will begin testing right after snack recess on Tuesday.

We have a school spirit day this week! Friday is Pajama Day!

Please remember to have your child bring a wrapped, new or gently used 4th grade level book to class before Friday for our Secret Santa Book Exchange. We have volunteers who have signed up to send in an extra book just in case you are unable to send one in. We still need 15 more books. Thank you all!

After we share our book exchange on Friday morning, we will watch a holiday movie and enjoy our holiday treats.  Kids are welcome to bring a pillow, blanket, and stuffed animal! Remember, Friday is pajama day! So students may come to class in pajamas, too! However, please remember to wear shoes appropriate for PE and recess activities.

We nearly have everything we need for our holiday party. Please check the sign up genius for items to send in. If you have signed up for something, you may begin sending in items on Monday.

Thank you for all of your support! It is so greatly appreciated!

Have a wonderful weekend!

December 3, 2021

December 3, 2021

Happy Friday! The students had a full week and they learned so much in class this week. I am so proud of their progress. Report cards went home on Thursday, and most of the report card envelopes made it back to class. Please make sure to sign and return the report card envelope if you have not done so already.

On Wednesday, December 8, am hoping your child can come to class in their "Holiday Best" for a photo for the holidays. I will ask students to write a reminder in their agenda on Tuesday night.

Our classroom party sign up genius was sent out today. Here is the link in case you missed it: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090E4EAAA92FA0FB6-holiday1 I am requesting all students to bring in a new or gently used 4th grade level book, wrapped in holiday paper, to pass out during our holiday party. Book gifts do not need a "to" and/or "from" name tag. They will be passed out randomly during a class game. I have extra gift wrapping paper in class, if needed. In addition, I have asked a few families to send in an extra book on the "Sign Up Genius" in case you are not able to do so. I love to promote reading in every way possible!

Please continue to have your child read nightly. Even though AR goals are not required in our class, students still need to stay on top of reading and taking AR tests when available for their reading selection.  Mrs. Alonso has passed out coupons for prizes in the library!  It was great fun!

Thank you so much for all of your help and support! Have a wonderful weekend!

November 23, 2021

Second Trimester has begun. This school year is moving so quickly!

Art Docent is scheduled for Wednesday with Mrs. Yoho.

Library Time: Thursday, December 2, at 10:25am. Please remind students to bring their library books in for renewal or check-in.

Report cards will come home December 2 in our Thursday Folders. Please sign the envelope and return it with your child’s Thursday Folder. Please keep the report card.

Have a Great Thanksgiving Break!
