Cross Country

Hello Alta Sierra Families!

My name is Rosalynn Asuncion and I will be this year's cross country coach. This year the cross country program is off to a speedy start. If you have a child that is in 4th or 5th grade, they are invited to join Alta Sierra's Cross Country Team. Practices will be Tuesdays and Wednesdays and possibly some optional Friday's depending on the meet schedules. The practices will be held directly after school from 2:05-3:05. The league is still currently developing the meet schedule, but are looking to have around 5-8 meets for the season. The season will start next week on August 23rd and will end just before fall break in October. The first meet is scheduled for the week of August 29th.

Meet Information:
-The track is roughly around 1 mile in length and usually winds around through different terrain.
-For the race each grade races independently, separated by girls and boys.
-The first 20 participants to cross in each category will receive a ribbon/medal.
-There is no school transportation provided for the meets, so it will be the parents responsibility to work out getting their child to and from each meet.

Participation Information:
-Cross country is a running sport through different terrain.
-Participants will be challenged to keep improving their time and length of running.
-At practice the participant is expected to come with a good and willing attitude.
-Participants must come to practice with running shoes, water and proper running attire.
-Parents and participants will need to sign a code of conduct. (this will be handed out at the first practice)
-Each participant will get a jersey to wear for the meets. I believe the cost of the jersey is $10, but will double check and get a final answer hopefully by the first practice.

My goal as a coach is to help each child succeed and grow as a runner. If your child's goal is to be able to just run the whole mile without stopping or if your child's goal is to cross the finish line first, I will be there to help them succeed. In the past I have coached soccer and softball. This will be my first year as the head coach, but I have been helping out with the program for the last two years. I have two daughters, one in 6th at Magnolia and another in 4th at Alta Sierra.

Reminder: 1st practice is next Tuesday August 23rd @ 2:05. Following practice parents will need to pick up their child or if the child is in the after school program can join then.

I am excited to get the season started and looking forward to meeting some future runners!
