We will read about California's Regions in our Weekly Studies magazine this week and we are excited to make our maps of California! Clay will be needed for our hands-on California Region's Map Project. Please send in clay. We will start the project when we have enough clay sent in to our class. 

 

Clay Recipe:

 

Ingredients: 1 cup flour ,1 tablespoon oil, 1 cup water, 1⁄2 cup salt, 2 teaspoons cream of tartar, food coloring (orange, yellow, purple, or green)

 

Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan. Place over medium heat. Using a wooden spoon stir constantly. Mixture will be soupy for several minutes. It will suddenly stick together. Remove from heat at this point but continue to stir until mixture is in a ball. Turn the hot ball onto a piece of wax paper until it is cool. Place in a ziplock or air tight container and send to class with your child.
