Morning Announcements - April 9, 2020 - MYSTERY READER

Good morning eagles. This is Audra Paasch with your morning announcements for Thursday April 9, 2020 I am a 5th grader in Mrs. Hollister and Mrs. Shureen’s Class. I miss hanging with my friends at school. On the other hand, I have found that I really like having extended time during distance learning. Monday is our first virtual spirit day. That means we all participate and take pictures of ourselves doing so. The first spirit activity is: Let's do LUNCH! It's National Make Lunch Count Day; show us what you're munching for lunch. Information will be emailed to your parents on how to share the pictures. Eagles are trustworthy. Even young children can understand the difference between the truth and a lie. In so many ways, trustworthiness is about honesty—saying what you mean and meaning what you say. Following through when you make a promise. Life is easier when we are trustworthy And now...a moment of science. Soon after sunset, in the deepening evening twilight, notice the brightest “star” in your western sky. That’ll be the planet Venus. Venus ranks as the third-brightest celestial object to light up the heavens, after the sun and moon. Given clear skies, you simply can’t miss it at evening dusk. Check in tomorrow to see who will be reading the announcements. Remember to always give your best effort..

Morning Announcements - April 7, 2020 - MYSTERY READER

Good morning eagles. This is Tyler Kinne with your morning announcements for Tuesday April 7, 2020 I am a 5th grader in Mrs. Hollister and Mrs. Shureen’s Class. Know your history! When was the first “video” call made? WRONG! The first video call was a one way video but it was in…..April 7, 1923! Yeah. almost 100 years ago. Tuesday is a good day to be active! Try Bench step-ups: Step right foot, then left, up onto a low bench or stair step, then step down. Switch your starting side with each set. Or how about inchworms: Bend forward at the hips and place hands on the ground with knees slightly bent, then walk your hands forward until you’re in a plank position. Now walk your feet in to meet your hands and stand back up! Next week we are going to have a virtual spirit week! Beginning April 13, you will have a topic to participate in each day. We have a private folder just for Alta Sierra students to share our photos. #togetherinspirit Eagles are respectful to our family members and friends, even when we are upset. We use good manners not bad language. We think before we react, especially with our siblings. Check in tomorrow to see who will be reading the announcements. Remember to always give your best effort..

Morning Announcements - April 6, 2020 - MYSTERY READER

Good morning eagles. This is Jaylen Hale with your morning announcements for Monday April 6, 2020. I am a 5th grader in Mrs. Hollister and Ms. Shureen’s Class. I miss seeing all of my friends and teachers at school. On the other hand, I have found that I really like that I have more resources with distance learning. Monday is a good day for math! WORKING WITH MONEY is math. Ask your parent for a list of items that you are going to buy at the store. Estimate the price of each. When you get to the store or get the receipt, write down the actual price. How close were you? Up for a challenge? Use the scale in the produce department to estimate and weigh fruits and vegetables. Everything has weight, even AIR! Lots of air molecules pack down and the temperature rises. However, this week, the air pressure is going to be low. Expect some rain and unsettled weather all week. Next week we are going to have a virtual spirit week! Beginning April 13, you will have a topic to participate in each day. We have a private folder just for Alta Sierra students to share our photos. #togetherinspirit Eagles are responsible with our learning. We plan ahead and set a learning schedule. We set goals for our learning and always do our best. Be responsible for your learning no matter what day it is. Did you know that the world's largest entirely edible cupcake was made in 2014 and weighed 61.4 lbs?! Check in tomorrow to see who will be reading the announcements. Remember to always give your best effort.

Distance Learning- digital resources

Hello families,

There is a paper packet for all families available tomorrow.

We are working out the kinks in our digital access.  Each grade level has a google classroom with assignments for the next 3 weeks.  Most of the classwork is available on line to be printed at home as well as links for support and access to programs to do on line.

The google classroom is for all students in a grade level district wide.  So if you log in and don't recognize the teacher posting assignments,  just know that they are the lead teacher at that grade level.  Our math workbook is more difficult to make available on line.  We have a copy of the workbook in the distant learning packets for all students.

There is pink sheet with your log in instructions inside your distance learning packet.

If you would like log in information, just email [email protected] and I will provide that to you.

We are open all day for you to come by and pick up packets.  You could have a friend pick it up to.

Packets that are not picked up will be delivered to the district office and you can pick it up there if that works better for your schedule.

Thank you and stay safe!

Distance Learning Packets - distribution schedule

March 23, 2020

Hello parents.  I sure hope this message finds your families healthy and peaceful.

Distance learning packets are ready and will be made available for pick up on Wednesday, March 25, 2020.  The schedule is below.

The times are set alphabetically by last name.  You may pick up packets for family or friends. Just be sure that you drop it off for them!  We need you to initial for all packets picked up. We need to know that all families had access.

Pickup times have been coordinated with Magnolia so you can hit both sites during the assigned hour.  Don’t worry if you are a little late, or early.

If the weather is cooperative, staff will be handing out the packets curbside in the bus loading zone and you won’t have to get out of your car.

If the weather is stormy, we will distribute in the MPR.  To maintain social distance, the number of people in the MPR will have to be kept to 10 or less.  Please park and wait until a staff member waves you up.

There are on-line resources available for enrichment, extra practice or to allow for exploration of topics.  You can find them all on our website home page at altasierra.prsd.us under the “students” tab.

State Testing has been waived

State testing (CAASPP) for 3rd-11th grades has been cancelled for this year.  That is one less thing for all of us to stress over!

The U.S. Department of Education announced a broad waiver process Friday, March 20, that will allow states to bypass all testing requirements included in the Every Student Succeeds Act for the current academic year.

Keep 'em Learning - check our website

Dear Alta Sierra Families,

I know this week is a shock to all of our systems.  I also know you want your children to continue to build and practice skills while school is cancelled.

On our web site, under the "students" tab is a list of websites with free access.  Most of these sites are K-8 and have printable as well as online practice in most subjects.   Use them and keep those little minds and hands busy!

We expect the state government to have specific guidance for us as we build distance learning packets for students.   That should begin at the first of next week.   Be sure to check your email for updates from our superintendent Rusty Clark.   If you know of families not receiving emails, have them call our district office and provide us with a current email address.

Please stay healthy and follow the recommendations from the CDC and local health officials.

Sincerely,

Mr. Bivens
