November 26-30, 2018

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed the extra time off!  It was a very special Thanksgiving for the Cornejo family! I can't wait to hear about your child's special Thanksgiving, too!

We had a wonderful buffet feast on Tuesday.  Thank you so much to everyone for sending in supplies and to the parents who came in and helped!

We have a full week this week and we will get back into our regular academic schedule.

This Thursday students will have computer lab time for our second round of MAP testing.  Please make sure your child has a good night's rest and a healthy breakfast to help them prepare for testing on Thursday morning.

We are on spelling week words 2.3. The Spelling City program is ready! Our spelling test will be on Thursday.

We will have our Math Testing on Division toward the end of the week! Please continue to monitor your child's homework for understanding of division.

We have finished our Science test on Animal Adaptations, and we will work on our California Books this week.

Report card will go home this Thursday.  Even though AR goals are not required in our class, students still need to stay on top of reading and taking AR tests when available for their reading selection.  We have passed out coupons for prizes in the library, and awards will be on display in our classroom for students who earn 10 points or more.  This month "Student of the Month" award will be given for reading, listening with attention, and trustworthiness.

I will send home information about our holiday celebration in the next couple of weeks!

Thank you so much for all of your help and support!

November 5-9, 2018

I hope everyone enjoys the beautiful weekend!

Thank you so much to everyone who helped make our Halloween Celebration a HUGE success! The children had a wonderful day! The parade was amazing! The students were stumped in math trying to figure how a group of  scientists could cross a "Zombie Bridge" in 17 minutes safely! Then everyone enjoyed decorating cookies and cupcakes, making personal gift bags, estimating the weight and diameter of a pumpkin, estimating and counting pumpkin seeds, and learning interesting facts about pumpkins!

This week we will be on spelling 3.1. The words are ready on Spelling City.

Congratulations to Ashton, Ben & Jaylen for earning the Jog-A-Thon/Color Run Pizza Party! They enjoyed their special pizza lunch on Nov. 1.  In addition, a big CONGRATULATIONS to Ashton, Valena, Ben, Jaylen, Rani, Miriam, and Hannah! They will be invited to throw water balloons at Mr. Bivens on Monday, Novemeber 5th at 1:00 for their Jog-A-Thon pledges collected. Families are welcome to join us on the field!

We will have Mrs. Yoho's Art Docent Presentation and Project on Wednesday.

Please remember to remind your child to continue working toward passing their multiplication facts on the Xtra Math program. We will have a celebration for all students who pass before November 16!  Congratulations to Carson, Jessica, Charlie, Jaylen, Kiara, Tyler, Karsten and Savanna for passing their multiplication facts already! I hope more students will pass the multiplication fact quiz so they will be invited to join us in this special celebration! Thank you so much for supporting the memorization of math facts!

The Square One Art orders are due November 9th. This is a wonderful fundraiser for our school, and the projects make sentimental holiday gifts for relatives!

Our trimester ends 11/16.  Please encourage your child to check their grades on power school, and to use the Think Central/Go Math, Xtra Math, and Spelling City web pages for added support.

We will have reading groups this week!

Thank you all again for all of your support and for sharing your children with me!  I am looking forward to a wonderful week!

Square 1 Art Orders going home on Thursday!

Dear Family,

We have partnered with your child’s school to create a unique opportunity to celebrate their artistic accomplishments while raising much needed funds for the school.

Coming home soon will be your child’s custom catalog featuring their artwork. Won’t you help make your child feel like an accomplished artist by purchasing keepsakes for the whole family containing their masterpiece? The school earns profit from every order. And as a thank you for participating, we provide each child with a sheet of stickers imprinted with their artwork — absolutely FREE!

Watch for more details about the campaign and order deadlines. (Nov. 9) All online and paper order forms must be turned in by the due date on your child’s custom catalog. (No late orders can be accepted.) Together, we can help support the school, build your child’s self-esteem, and create lasting keepsakes from your child’s artistic achievements.

THREE EASY WAYS TO ORDER KEEPSAKES

  1. The paper order form attached to their custom catalog.
  2. Online at www.square1art.com/shop.
  3. Phone Customer Care 888-332-3294.
THANK YOU
A huge thank you to all of the teachers, faculty and volunteers for their help in creating this meaningful fundraiser.

We will read about "Web Wizards" this week, and we will begin our science unit on Animal Adaptations.

There is an earthquake drill on the school calendar for Thursday.

We will have a chef presentation from Sierra Harvest on Friday at 10:30-11:00. Please contact me if you would like to volunteer to help us with this wonderful experience!

A message from PTC President:

Jog-a-Thon Pledges

Eagle Families,

Sorry for the confusion around the JAT pledges.  Pledges are due by this Friday, October 12th to be eligible for prizes.  You will be informed on Monday of any prizes your child has earned.  I hope this clarifies things.  Please let me know if you have any questions and again, I am so sorry for the confusion.

Sincerely,
Alicia Alonso
PTC President

Volunteers Needed!

Thank you Dr. Murphy and Mrs. Griffis for volunteering to help with our Jog-A-Thon. I am still looking for more lap counters for the Jog-A-Thon on Friday, Oct. 5. We are scheduled to run 9:30-10:00, but I need parents to arrive in our classroom at 9:10 to help with lap cards.

In addition, we will need 1 to 2 parent volunteers to join us on Friday, Oct. 19 from 10:15-11:00 for a "Chef Tasting Visit".

Please email me if you would like to join us with either of these wonderful events!

Thank you,

Thank you so much for subscribing to my web page!  I will post a brief newsletter weekly so you can keep up on what is going on in our magnificent classroom!

We have spent the first week and a half of school getting to know each other, and going over classroom and school expectations and procedures. In addition, we are completing academic screening in Math and ELA to assist with our instructional goals for the year. The children are doing great!

Students began their Red Reading Folders last week. The Folders will be due every Friday. Almost everyone returned their folder on time! I am so proud of our students! Please continue to have your child read for at least 20 minutes each night for at least 3 nights per week and record the minutes and sign the red reading folder. If the folder is not signed, the student will not receive credit for reading.

We started math homework this week. I have set up the computer to allow your child to access ISE and Skills Sets on the "Think Central/Go Math" site found under student links. All students practiced using this program in class, so they should be able to show you how they do it at home. It is a good resource to use if your child is ever absent or needs extra help understanding the math concepts.

I will put the looking ahead dates on the bottom of this newsletter.

I am looking forward to seeing you at Back to School Night on Wednesday, August 29 at 7:30-8:10 p.m. in room 23.

We are going to have a wonderful year!
