Interested in challenging your 4th or 5th grade child?

Pleasant Ridge Union School District (PRUSD) would like to offer our 4th and 5th grade students the opportunity to take the qualifying exam for Sacramento State's Academic Talent Search (ATS) program. The ATS program is held over the summer on the Sacramento State campus and has five different sessions to choose from.

ATS provides academically challenging, fast-paced courses to advanced and motivated 4th through 9th grade students in the greater Sacramento area.

PRUSD will cover the cost of the exam, however, since it is not free we are only assessing students at parent request.   The program runs during the summer and has a cost of $335/class.

If you have any questions regarding the program, please visit their website at

If you would like your child to take the qualifying exam, please fill out Section 1 of the attached form and return it to your child's teacher.  If you do not have a printer, feel free to stop by the office and pick up a form.

Sorry for being melodramatic!  Our PTC is in need of volunteers to help out in a few areas for our largest fundraiser of the year, Casino Night (February 20).
If you can donate as little as 30 minutes of your time, it would be greatly appreciated.

Please email our PTC President, Karen Gobert,  at if you can pitch in.
Our Casino Night fundraiser brings in close to $15,000 for our school annually and it is rapidly approaching.
If you haven't purchased your tickets yet, you may do so here.
Casino Night is February 20!   Make sure your calendars are marked.

Attention 5th grade parents!

If you are getting frustrated as a parent as your child slowly turns into a middle schooler, PRUSD is hosting a parenting class at Magnolia Intermediate on Thursday nights to help you out!
The Love and Logic Parenting program is a nationally acclaimed program that is coming to PRUSD to help our families.

Alta Sierra School Safety Tip (School Evacuation)

At our most recent school site council meeting, we were reviewing our emergency plans when a good safety tip for parents was brought up.
If you have another school parent for which you trust, you might consider adding them to the emergency card.   The rationale that we discussed is that in an actual emergency where a relocation of students was done, getting in and out of the evacuation site will be extremely chaotic.  If your trusted friend was 10 or 15 minutes ahead of you in the process, you would probably prefer that your trusted friend retrieve your child(ren) so that you can have peace of mind sooner.

Casino Night

From our PTC

Hello Alta Sierra Elementary Parents!

We need your help! Our annual Casino Night is fast approaching. We depend on donations from our local community to make the auction a success. We need volunteers who are willing to stop by local businesses to ask for these donations. We have divided our area into manageable sizes so as to ease the burden on each volunteer. Please see the attached google document to see how we have divided our area and if you are able to sign up for one or more.

For your convenience, we have assembled packets which include instructions, donation letters and a map with the list of businesses for your specific zone.  Each zone will take no longer than thirty minutes to an hour. It will be fast, simple and fun! This is a great opportunity to teach our kids how to contribute to their school community!

If you are able to help, you can just sign up on the google doc for the zone you would like (See GOOGLE DOC link below).  If you are unable to edit the document, please contact Alicia Alonso at or 530-305-3651 and she will help you get signed up.  Once you have signed up, you can pick up your packet in the office.  Please try to complete your zone and return the packets no later than Friday, January 22, 2016.

As always, thank you so much for all you do for your child's school,

With Many Thanks,

Alta Sierra Casino Night Committee

Everyone shops @ us get some of that money back!

Dear Alta Sierra Families,

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are two of the busiest shopping days of the year. This is a great opportunity to increase Alta Sierra Parents Club's AmazonSmile donations by reminding your supporters to shop at and are the exact same site, but if you register your amazon account at the link above a portion of your proceeds go to our school.   Our school is listed as "Pleasant Ridge Union School District Parents Club" when you are searching for the school.
